Matt McKeen Interview!
1) Intro:
My names Matthew J McKeen, I been riding for 10 years, sponsored by Addict, Boxes Ltd, and Eagle Wheels.
2) What is your favorite thing about scooter riding?
That I can haul ass like I'm on a bike but still be doing skateboard style tricks, perfect mix between both.
3) What is you least favorite aspect of the sport?
This whole perception that people have about scootering, that it's just for kids and crowds up skateparks. I want to see kids grow up and start getting gnarly. We still haven't reached this new level of riding yet. I know scooters are capable of so much crazier shit.
4) Everyone knows Addict has been filming for a long time now for a video. How is your part coming along? Any idea when it should be finished?
It's going good, we had a couple set backs, like on of our hard drives getting stolen along with a camera, but we actually started putting the rest of our footage together and realized we had more than we thought. My part is pretty much done, I think maybe one or two more hammers and it'll be good to go. I think we're aiming for like March.
5) Who were your inspirations when you first began riding?
I watched a lot of NBS videos back in the day, for all you kiddies that was old legit razor videos. I rememeber being super hyped when NBS4 came out, Chris Daigle was so gnarly for that time. And then all those old Philly crew videos, when dudes like Tim Muller and Sean Griffen were riding, Anarky 2 was real badass. Then I met a local dude named George who kinda put everything into perspective for me cause he was the first dude I saw hitting actual handrails and doing lines.
6) What do you like most about Addict parts?
That they're sooo light but strong at the same time. I haven't actually broke a part yet, I just switch to a fresh one when I think it's getting weak. I'm not trying to pull a Tom K. You can kinda start to tell when the parts are getting week cause they have a little give to it, they'll probably bend before they crack.
7) As seen in some of your videos wee see you riding a skateboard. Who is your favorite skateboarder? Why?
Ooo that's a tough one, there's so many haha. I don't have one favorite. But dudes like Brandon Westgate and Grant Taylor are sick cause they mob at stuff, Dylan Rieder for being super steezy, and Figgy for killing rails.
8) What scooter rider and scooter videos are currently getting you stoked?
I just chilled with Chema when I was out in Cali and that dude is fucking gnar, I'm pretty hyped on him cause he's got a style like no one else's. That's really important. I think Feeny and Monky are definitely on the come up. Also the Friendly boys from Aussie get me really stoked too. And of course, watching the other Addict riders.
9) Tupac or Biggie
Biggie, I can't stand Tupac's voice haha.
10) Favorite clothing brand?

Jon "Lil Jon" Aglialoro B.A.M.
1st video of the B.A.M. series! So many more of these to come... Only here at the Back Alley Movement!
Benjamin Friant 2011 Throwaway
This guy has been one of the more profound influences in our sport for a number of years now. He has managed to take his video's to a whole new level in terms of variety in both the tricks he performs and even the terrain he rides(street, park, snow). I think it is safe to say that BenJ is one of best all around scooter riders in the sport today. Watch and enjoy his latest and greatest creation, compiled of 2011 throwaway footage.
Andrew Broussard Interview
1) Intro:
My name is Andrew Broussard, I'm 26 years old from San Diego, California and I've been riding scooters for a long time. Over the years I slowly geared my attention towards the industry and started a few businesses out of my passion for the sport. I now do manufacturing and distribution through TGE Distribution (PROTO Scooters & Boxes LTD), retail through Freestyle Depot and nerd out on www.ScooterResource.com which is the website that really started it all for me.
2) What is your favorite part about running your own scooter company?
As a scooter rider it would have to be the free parts and the freedom to design and manufacture whatever I want, exactly how I want it to be. It's like the Dream Scooter thread on SR only in real life.
3) What were your thoughts on the PROTO Catalyst DVD?
I loved the way it turned out. Everyone involved put soo much effort into making that movie what it was. It's crazy to look back on it now to see the history of the sport like that especially since things have and still are changing so quickly right now. I feel like it really captured a moment in time and in our sport that we probably won't ever see it again. I can only hope that everyone who sees it can acknowledge and appreciate what it takes to make something like that a reality and I hope that movie acts as a catalyst in our industry to inspire more creative riding and rider based, driven and focused movements. Also, releasing the movie on DVD was arguably a bad decision since the internet effectively destroyed DVD sales but I'm a fan of old skate videos and actually holding a copy of a movie in my hands. On Christmas we released it for free online and it got like 10 times more views than copies of the DVD's sold in 24 hours soo... as long as people are watching it I guess I'm happy.
4) You got to kick it with Travis Pastrana and all of the Nitro Circus gang. Tell us about that experience.
This answer could be very long-winded so I'll just say they are all really awesome, laid back, adrenaline junkies and I loved everything about the time I spent training and touring with them and having such and incredible opportunity to promote my sport in such a real way, not influenced by the business side of things.
5) What can we expect to come out of PROTO this year?
I always have a million plans when time and money allow, but I would like to see everything integrated, backsweep bars, new BUFF bars, 125mm wheels, tools, UBS, maybe a TDI v2 design and I have a design for a pretty cool aluminum fork but I don't know if we will be following that trend just yet. New team, website and video this year as well. We have Brandon Kilbury, Alex Steadman, Dylan Kasson, Chema Cardenas, and Jackson Manzie filming for the next video right now. Mostly everyone else from Catalyst are part of the new PROTO family along with a bunch of other cool people we hook up, all of whom have the opportunity to film and have footage in the video depending on how much work they put in for it. We also just got a new warehouse that is pretty sweet and large so maybe some more promo shop/sesh web videos.
6) Where do you think the sport will be in 5 years?
The sky is the limit really... Having all these mass produced China companies flooding the market is definitely expediting the sports growth, but to be honest I don't really think about it. I just focus on what I have to do right now to make sure my company is as good as it can be and try my best to enjoy going to work and riding when I have time then whatever happens in 5 years just... happens.
7) Rumors are you have been funding Boxes LTD? Is that true? If so, what are your goals?
True. I own 51% of Boxes LTD and handle all manufacturing and distribution. My buddy/filmer since junior high, Kris Anacleto, owns 49% and is the artist, filmer, editor and creative director for the brand on the side of his normal job which is basically all of the above in the skateboard industry. I wanted to get into soft goods but didn't really have the means to do it alone and Kris needed another outlet for his design work so it was a good fit. I guess the goal really is just to fill a void in our industry and to provide a look and feel that scooter riders can rep confidently plus with the team we assembled, we are all on the same page with trying to give the sport a more mature and respectable look.
8) Have you ever thought of getting another job rather than doing just scooter work?
No. I worked enough other jobs before I started these companies to know that this is the only job for me through thick and thin, rich or poor, sickness and health, rain or shine, for better or worse, til death do us part. I would also feel pretty bad if I walked away and let an industry that I have dedicated so much of myself into to get manhandled by a bunch of people and companies who don't actually give a shit about the success of the sport unless that are getting paid. I am here to represent the riders and the power that we have in OUR industry which I feel is something that is severely under-represented at the moment.
9) How long does it take to get your mustache ready?
Ah man that really depends on so many factors like my mood, the humidity and the hangover. I'd say 5 minutes is a pretty good average.
10) Best girl fantasy?
Crowd surfing through time square on a sea of pasty white red heads. No doubt.
Boxes Limited - Matt McKeen Promo Coming Soon!
I can't wait for this video! Looks like it is about to be real good.

The Box is Back
This video is CRAZY. The first clip of the video just shows you how good it is about to be. Ryan Gould is the man. Everyone else kills it. Best box edit to this date in my opinion.
Nick Donatelli Interview/ The EMP
1 ) Intro:
Nick Donatelli, 19 years old from Corona CA, been riding for about 6 years now and sponsored by Scooterzone and theEMP.
2) The EMP. Tell everyone what it is all about.
TheEMP is a Clothing Company me and my good friend Bill Hedrick started a few months ago. We are all about bringing a cleaner cut and more stylish look of clothing to the scootering scene, that anybody could wear where ever.
3) What are your goals with the company?
Our main goal with this company is push the clothing scene out of the printed scooter parts on the shirts to shirts that have a more mature look that you can wear out to parties, kickbacks, school, and the skatepark to look fresh while wearing a scooter brand clothing shirt. We also want to bring out the underrated riders in the sport to have an opportunity to shine instead of being overlooked by a kid doing flips.
4) Who is currently sponsored by The EMP? Are you stoked on your roster?
Our team is BANGING, we got Robert "Monky" Mcmoran, Jon "Lil Jon" Aglialoro and Mike Montgomery. We are beyond stoked about this team, I've personally known Monky for years and he deserves his spot so much. Then with Mike and Jon, they were my team mates when I was on Lucky and they were just so beast I had to put them on.
5) What is your favorite thing about scooter riding?
Has to be all the gnarly seshes we have when we gather 4-7 other riders and go street riding or hitting up parks.
6) What got you into starting a clothing company?
I've always wanted to start a clothing brand, but never really thought it was possible until a couple months ago my buddy Bill Hendrick and I were talking about it and decided to just go for it. At that time we were talking about how there wasn't really any legit clothing brands trying to push the scene out, so that really gave us the urge to do it.
7) Where do you see the sport in a couple years?
It's hard to say since its grown so much in the past three years that it can keep on growing and blow our sport up into the Dew Tour or the X Games. Or it can take a slower time and get us into those competitions and recognition in 7 years, but I our sport will continue to grow no doubt.
8) If you could ride with anyone who would it be? Why?
OG Will Branson no doubt. Back when I first realized you could do tricks on scooters I went on Youtube and typed in scooter videos and his popped up and got me into riding basically. Would be so crazy to meet and ride with that guy or Thomas Obadia, "Bibito" that guys crazy and was one of my biggest inspirations.
9) You get one full day with any celebrity. Who would it be and what would you do all day?
Jwoww from Jersey Shore. Go take her out on a nice date, ya know? Then off to the clubs and party and shizz, then grab some dessert and smash...hahaha.
10) As seen way back when you were on Lucky you took a really hard hit to the head. Tell us what you remember and what that was like.
Well I dont know I took a lot of slams haha, but that day at Diamond bar I was with Josh Toy, Kody Mcqueen, John Radtke, Chris Gascoigne, Tyler Wheeland, and Nick Darger. We were off searching for spots that day and found a 6 block with my name all over it so I went up to the set and checked it out and just went for it. Sketchy part was the run up was totally side ways so I would have to turn right before I hit the set. So that is the reason why I over rotated and got a concussion and 17 stitches to my eyebrow. But really the run up wasn't even phasing me I just wanted to get this done for my part for the first clover. I was kinda shakey riding up to it and a huge bright light hit and I just remember waking up on the floor having everyone looking at me and got the most massive headache. Then Tyler showed me the footy of what happened and I was just in shock like damn that just happened. Till this day I really don't like watching the fall, gives me the creeps.
11) Any shout outs?
Ohhh boy haha. My partner/best friend Bill Hedrick, my designer/ good friend Stefan Brandow, Nick Darger for being a homie/filmer/editor, all of Scooterzone, my Mother and Father, Steven T, The EMP riders, my brother Anthony, Kingsly and all the homies I ride with, you all know who you are! And you for the interview, thanks man.

Erik Feenstra and Josh Nathan: Iphone Footage
So I figured we would stick with today's "Tilt" theme and post this edit up, which features Tilt's own Erik Feenstra. This edit was filmed with an Iphone, which is pretty shocking, considering the quality of the footage. Anyways, Josh Nathan and Erik Feenstra absolutely kill those ledges. Feenstra's Back-lip on that top ledge was ridiculous! Watch and enjoy.
Collin Snoek Interview
1) Intro:
My name is Collin Snoek. I run Tilt Scooters and currently live in Chicago.
My name is Collin Snoek. I run Tilt Scooters and currently live in Chicago.
2) How did you start your own company?
Well, it pretty much started because I’m a really tall guy. Back before all these aftermarket parts, no parts were made any bigger than stock Razors. I built my own deck, bars, and fork from scratch. Then I ended up meeting Josh Young, and he pushed me to make pegs. I remember having to do loads of research on manufacturing processes in order to put the pegs into production. I did a good bit of the work in my parent’s unheated garage through the freezing Michigan winter. That peg ended up being the original Tilt Park pegs.

3) What is it like being one of the only rider owned companies?
Being a rider and owning a scooter company can be discouraging. All of us riders are very opinionated. It’s difficult to support a market that is quickly filling with Chinese companies. I don’t necessarily see them as competition, but I have a vision for pushing products and values that will progress scooters. The other companies have a vision for finances, not whether they are impacting the sport in positive or negative manner.

4) What parts do you have coming out this year?
Well, the Tilt SCS is dropping in less than two months. An HIC double clamp will be finished about the same time. We have been working on a wheel and have made something like 130 prototypes. The wheel will come out this summer. Decks and bars are a ways off, but Tilt will have a complete by the end of 2012.

5) What do you think about your team roster?
The team is really great. I generally talk to everyone on the team at least a couple times a week. We do not add riders just for location or riding ability. Everyone has a vote on adding new riders to the team. The finished roster is a group of riders who work well together and are all buddies.

6) What is inspiring you? As far as running a company, I do not take much inspiration from other industries. Everyone on the team pushes me to make new and better products. I do my best not to let them down although that doesn't always happen.
7) What is it like running your own company?
Stressful. Running a company is not what most people imagine. In short, it’s working consecutive 12+ hour days for little pay. Everything about scooters becomes very monotonous. I’m not sure how it works, but the truth of the matter is I don’t see myself doing anything else.

8) Where do you see Tilt in 5 years
I have some goals, but those cannot be publicized. In short, Tilt will keep expanding and will be one of the premier scooter companies.
